On June 12, 2009, the Science Museum of Minnesota will open the doors of Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition, an exhibition that features a spectacular collection of more than 250 authentic
artifacts recovered from the haunting wreckage of the world-famous ocean liner.
Effective June 9, Minnesota’s seat belt law is a primary offense, meaning drivers and passengers in all seating positions must be buckled up or in the correct child restraint. Law enforcement can stop motorists for seat belt violations. A seat belt ticket can cost from $25 to more than $100.
A majority of Minnesotans buckle up, yet each year more than half of the motorists killed in crashes aren’t belted — translating to around 200 deaths and 400-plus serious injuries annually.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection assured U.S. and Canadian citizens that, if otherwise admissible, they will be able to re-enter the United States when the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative (WHTI) is implemented for land and sea travel on June 1.
Gov. Tim Pawlenty and First Lady Mary Pawlenty announced the Governor’s Residence will again open to the public for summer tours beginning Tuesday, June 2, and continuing throughout June, July, and August, on the first three Tuesdays of each month.
“The Governor’s Residence was graciously donated to the state by Olivia Irvine Dodge and Clotilde Irvine Moles and belongs to the people of Minnesota,” Governor Pawlenty said. “The First Lady and I invite all Minnesotans to visit this marvelous place.”
Dassel-Cokato Community Theatre will have auditions for its summer musical “Little Me” on May 23 and 30.
Auditions are scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. both May 23 and 30 at Dassel-Cokato Performing Arts Center, located on the northeast corner of the Dassel-Cokato High School. Adult actors are sought.
Rehearsals will begin in early June. Performance dates are July 10, 11, 18 and 19. This production is co-sponsored by Dassel-Cokato Community Education and the Dassel-Cokato Arts Association.
June at the Lower Sioux Agency brings interactive children’s events, a free day honoring military veterans and a new guided history tour. All programs are included with site admission fee of $6 for adults, $5 for seniors, $4 for children ages 6-17 and free for children under 6 and MHS members. The Veterans Family Free Day on June 13 is free to veterans and their families.
