With the holiday season right around the corner, local churches, schools and organizations are hosting a variety of holiday events next month to get everyone in the spirit of the season.

LHS band to perform Concert in the Park

Attend an evening of music in Central Park during the sixth annual Concert in the Park.

The Litchfield High School band department encourages the community to come out at 7:30 p.m. Friday and enjoy a night of music under the shade of the trees. This is a relaxed farewell concert for the high school seniors who have stuck it out for four years as high school musicians, director Dave Ceasar said.
It’s a time to bring children out to play in the park and hear some great music. The band will perform a wide variety of music from every generation.

Who will be the next Miss Litchfield?

Eleven Litchfield High School seniors will vie for the title of Watercade Queen during the 52nd annual celebration July 10-13. Candidates running for Miss Litchfield are, front row, Natasha Reed, Kayti Warpula, Kayla Salo, Lindsey Ballard, Perri Torkelson and Megan Lundin. Back row are Katlin VanOrt, Ashley Krug, Rachel Haugo, Hannah Peterson and Breanna Magnuson.



EV-W drama students will perform comedy

The Eden Valley-Watkins High School Drama Club will perform the comedy “You Can’t Take It With You” by Moss Hart and George S. Kaufman, at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and a matinee at 2 p.m. Sunday at the high school cafeteria stage in Eden Valley.


Litchfield High School LIVE concerts take place tonight, Friday

Litchfield High School singers hope to perform to packed houses at the annual Litchfield LIVE concerts at 8 p.m. today and Friday in the high school gymnasium.

The concert will feature more than a dozen solo and small ensembles each night, as well as performances by the Dragonaires, Freshmen Choir and joint Varsity and Chamber choirs. The Chamber choir will perform a medley from “Hairspray.”

Concert admission is $6 adults and $3 students. The money will help reduce the cost of next year’s choir trip.

Mayzie LeBird, played by Aubrey Ross, sings her trademark "Amazing Mayzie" during "Seussical Jr."  Litchfield Community Youth Theatre is staging the play at the Litchfield High School Little Theatre at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday and at 2 p.m. Sunday.

Seuss on stage

Becca Hansen, who plays the Cat in the Hat, and Elle Dinius, who plays JoJo the Who, rehearse a scene from "Seussical Jr." Litchfield Community Youth Theatre will stage the musical production, which includes more than 50 children and a few adults from area, this week. Show times are 7 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday, and 2 p.m. Sunday at Litchfield High School Little Theatre. Tickets are available at Litchfield Community Education.



High school bands to perform April 3

The Litchfield High School bands will be in concert at 7:30 p.m. April 3 in the LHS gymnasium.

The bands will highlight music from Tuesday’s Minnesota State High School League large-group contest, as well as additional songs they have been working on this winter.

The freshmen band will play a piece, called “Quest for an Undaunted Knight,” which is a musical story from Medieval times. The 10th grade varsity band’s selections will feature an Irish song, “Loch Lomond.”


Rice to perform vocal concert at Ostmark

Eden Valley-Watkins High school graduate Ryan Rice will be featured in a special vocal concert, “Songs of Travel” at 7 p.m. April 5 at Ostmark Lutheran Church, rural Watkins.
