Grove City to receive $1.5 million water improvement loanJuly 8, 2008 - 12:31pm — Brent SchachererState Rep. Dean Urdahl, R-Grove City, announced Tuesday that the Minnesota Public Facilities Authority has approved a financing package of nearly $1.5 million for Grove City to use in the construction of a new well, water treatment plant and meters. The Drinking Water Revolving Fund is a 20-year loan at an interest rate of 1.258 percent. The MPFA estimates the favorable financing conditions will save local taxpayers nearly $440,000 in interest costs when compared with current market rates available for general obligation bonding. An effort to restore the shoreJuly 7, 2008 - 3:31pm — Kristin HoltzDoug Hedin has been working toward environmental goals for years, serving as the president of the Lake Jennie Association, helping legislators develop policy and getting involved with private environmental groups. So when the opportunity arose to naturalize his shoreline on Lake Jennie, he and his wife, Beverly, jumped at it. “We need more people to return their shoreline to a natural environment,” Doug Hedin said. “What happens to the lake is dependent upon what happens to the land around the lake.” Cathi Fouchi, left, a regional planner for the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, talks with Sue Barrick and others who attended the Greenleaf Lake State Recreation Area Citizens Advisory Council meeting Monday. It was the third meeting of the council, a 13-member group composed of area residents who represent a wide range of outdoor and recreation interests. The group is charged with recommending to the DNR what types of activities will be offered at Greenleaf Lake State Recreation Area.
