The Minneapolis Police Bomb Squad was called into the Eden Valley City Hall to secure an explosive device Tuesday morning.
The Eden Valley Police Department reported that someone brought an explosive device to the City Hall/Police Department building around 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, according to the Meeker County Sheriff’s Department.
Authorities evacuated the city hall building. The Minneapolis Bomb Squad arrived on the scene two hours later to remove, secure and detonate the bomb at a remote location. There were no injuries or damage, Sheriff Mike Hirman said.
No other businesses or homes were evacuated, Hirman said.
“Talking to the bomb squad, there was no danger of this device if it exploded to go much father beyond the walls it was in," he said.
The Sheriff’s Department is investigating the incident. Hirman said an individual had found the device while cleaning out a storage area of a rental unit. Because of the ongoing investigation, Hirman declined to release details about the device. Materials from the device will be tested.
Assisting on the scene were the Eden Valley Police Department, Eden Valley Fire Department and Rescue Squad, Watkins Rescue/Ambulance, Watkins Police Department and the bomb squad.
