The price of a corn dog or a chicken patty will cost parents more next year.

The Litchfield School Board voted to raised breakfast and lunch meals by a dime for the 2008-09 school year. The increase is the result of anticipated rises in food prices.

“I feel there’s going to be a raise in food prices due to the increase in delivery raises because of fuel prices,” business manager Todd Swanson said Monday.

The 10-cent-a-meal increase will bring breakfast prices to $1.10 at all four district schools. Lunch prices will be $1.60 at Lake Ripley Elementary and Wagner Elementary, $1.70 at Litchfield Middle School and $1.80 at the high school. Adult meal prices are $3.10.

The increase is expected to generate approximately $25,000 a year for the district. The district serves approximately 151 breakfasts and 1,331 lunches a day, or $261,000 meals a year.

The last meal price increase came two years when the district raised prices a dime.

“Makes sense to me,” board member Stacey Helstrom said. “I wish my grocery bill had only went up at that rate, percentage-wise.”
