Nov. 21 is a

Nov. 21 is a vacation/holiday as voted on by the teachers and approved by the Litchfield School Board.

Litchfield elementary students (K-5) also have off Nov. 16 for elementary conferences. The kindergartners have Nov. 15 off, too, because Litchfield kindergarten teachers have approximately 40 students apiece and need an extra day for meeting with parents.

The School of St. Philip tends to follow the Litchfield Public Schools calendar because of shared bussing.

The 5th is Teacher Workshop day and the 21st are for elementary conferences. If you go to www.litchfield.k12.mn.us you can view the school calendar and it tells you why they are off on any given day.

I can't answer why workshops

I can't answer why workshops are not held on weekends, but traditionally the Litchfield School District has four pre-scheduled late starts a year in addition to two teacher days. Late starts typically are used for workshops on assessments, different instruction methods, curriculum, technology, and student behavior. Sometimes they include bringing in outside speakers.

Teacher workshops, which are full days off for students, come at the end of a quarter.

Why are there 2 hour late starts when kids should be in school learning? Why are these work shops not done on a weekend?
