Opera House’s plight draws statewide attention

Filed under:

When the Litchfield City Council voted last month to demolish the Litchfield Opera House, it seemed to mark the end of for the 106-year-old, sandstone brick building at the corner of Second Street and Marshall Avenue.

However, preservationists have kept up their efforts to refurbish the building in a debate that’s attracting attention from across the state. An article in the Tuesday, Nov. 16 Star Tribune traces the history of the building and the debate of whether to preserve the historic but mold-infested building.

We’re interested in your opinions and suggestions regarding the Opera House. Has the building seen its prime, or are taxpayers willing to foot the bill for a remodel? What do you think should be done with the Litchfield Opera House?

It should be kept/save
I went through the 60's-70's when everything should be torn down to modernize was the thinking then, and a lot of it was.Like the Hotel, ect in Litch and alot of large buildings in the cities. One of the few kept and renovated in Mpls is the police station down town and St Paul is the Landmark building.
Travl around some to small/old or even larger cities that have kept, fixed up their old buildings and some of its history and they draw people in because of that.If you like that of stuff.Well I do,and know days alot of travelers do.And how many towns/cities have REAL Opera House lift standing.
Think of the History in it,with the GAR Hall, and the down town. With alot of the old house's.It's something to Promote with the town NOT Distroy.
